All Windows Workstations are named by the following convention.
All Research workstations and laptops are named with a standard convention. The convention is sr, for surrey research followed by the last 5 barcode digits.


Lab Directors Name + 8 digits of the Barcode.
For example:
sr-#####
The only exception to the rule is wireless devices, which have a 'w' designation:
sr-w#####


 
So, a wired computer with a complete barcode of: 3 934500 000318 0, would have a sr-000318 hostname. All characters are lowercase.
For Example:
 
Directors Name: John Bowes
 
Barcode: 39345000003180
 
Workstation's Name: BOWES00000318
 
Note: All characters should be in capital letters.
